Employee Spotlight: Keith Chapman, General Counsel

Our mission at Instawork is to create economic opportunities for local businesses and professionals, globally. In order to achieve that mission, we have built a team composed of talented and hard-working individuals who are passionate about connecting skilled hourly professionals with local businesses who need their services.

Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it‚Äôs like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we‚Äôve asked Keith Chapman, General Counsel, to share more about his experience working at Instawork.

What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?

After a long-running conversation with Sumir, I joined Instawork in January 2021. As General Counsel, I head a small-but-mighty legal department, partnering with teams across the company to draft and review contracts, help coordinate corporate and M&A activity, manage litigation, provide product & regulatory counsel, curate insurance coverage, advise on trust & safety, coordinate IP protection, facilitate government relations strategy, oversee employment and immigration matters, and make dad jokes.

What initially attracted you to Instawork?

Instawork‚Äôs ability to unlock sustainable, scalable opportunities on both sides of an app-enabled marketplace. Coming from a world of rideshare and on-demand delivery, I‚Äôm fascinated by our  national (and global) conversation about the ‚Äúfuture of work.‚Äù Instawork stood out as a unique voice, able both to harmonize meaningful flexibility with a livable income for Pros and to fill variable staffing demand with cost-effective elegance for Partners.

What's your favorite part of your job?

It’s never dull--there are always new and exciting challenges.

What is one piece of ‚Äúwork from home‚Äù equipment you couldn‚Äôt live without?

The wicker screen I use to hide the messiness behind me.

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?

Challenges that seem new or scary are going to feel normal a month from now.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?

Overachieving with a subtle, self-deprecating humor.
