Employee Spotlight: Carl Bager, Growth Engineering Intern

Our mission at Instawork is to create economic opportunities for local businesses and professionals, globally. In order to achieve that mission, we have built a team composed of talented and hard-working individuals who are passionate about connecting skilled hourly professionals with local businesses who need their services.

Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it’s like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Carl Bager, a Growth Engineering Intern to share more about his experience working at Instawork.

What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?

I joined the FAST team (Fast, Audacious, Simple, Team) where we pursue special projects with asymmetric upside for Instawork. I have been with Instawork since May 2024 focusing on growing the number of business partners on our platform. My work has been split between three areas: building, operating, and strategizing. I’ve worked on building a growth module that aims to match new potential Instawork Partners with relevant Professionals in our database. This initiative aims to introduce Partners to the millions of phenomenal Instawork Professionals. Concurrently, I have provided operational support for new and potential Partners as they onboard onto Instawork. Lastly, I have worked on organic search strategies.

What initially attracted you to Instawork?

I believe deeply in the mission of creating economic opportunity. Both the trap and the allure of working on technology is its abstraction from reality. Technology can displace us from the fundamental realities of the people whose lives it impacts. Conversely, technology spawns previously unimaginable opportunities for societies and individuals. Instawork exists in an equilibrium between these two forces: our technology accelerates the creation of real economic opportunity for both our Partners and Professionals.

What's your favorite part of your job?

I immensely enjoy the candor and intellectual rigor my co-workers have when evaluating projects and ideas.

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?

Speed matters. In situations where it is not possible to get authoritative guidance, it is better to act with limited information. The source of this mentality is trust across the organization.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?

Principled thinking permeates Instawork, creating a focused team.
